Classical Archaeology

Statement: Rubina Raja’s research focuses on visual culture and urbanism in the ancient world. Raja is studying the largest corpus of Roman period portraits stemming from one location, namely Palmyra in Syria. These portraits, and in particular those of the Palmyrene priests will be the focus of the research done while at the IAS, as they give new insight into the structure of religious life in Palmyra in the first three centuries CE.
