Roman History

Statement: My project investigates the role of statutory law in structuring Roman imperialism during the Republic (c. 250-30 BCE), arguing that the conquest, conceptualization, and exploitation of overseas territories during this period were all propelled by a distinctively republican form of ordering the world, reflected in the legal apparatus of empire.
