Statement: My book focuses on how Chinese healers from antiquity to the mid-eighteenth century instrumentalized their bodies as mnemonic aids, calculating devices, and even medical instruments before medical instruments became external to physicians’ bodies, calculators substituted for brains, and computers became surrogates for memory and minds in the modern period.
